I made the pattern myself, getting ideas from the web and using a bra as a basis. As you can tell I kinda have big boobs so the regular triangle doesn't look too good on me. Below is a picture of the shapes that I used. The straps go around my neck. I actually sewed everything by hand since I don't have my sewing machine here but it didn't take too long, just a little sub par quality. Since this is following a bra pattern the bottom piece fit tightly, this means that you have to have some sort of opening at the back. What I did was to use elastic I had lying around, a little tight when pitting it on but it works.
For the bottom piece, I traced one of my bras on a piece of paper and made sure that it fit with the cup I was making. I had to extend it a little further (you can see the notch in the picture,
Overall I think it was a pretty good use of a pair of jean legs that were going to be tossed. I can see a lot of possibilities with this pattern or even this top. You could alter it into a longer shirt, add some clasps or a zipper. It could even be decorated like those bras people wear to dance concerts. Endless possibilities.
I'm going to try to see how well other types of fabrics work with this pattern,

I've been looking for a diy halter top with a shape like this. This came out beautifully. Is there anyway you could post instructions? I'm just learning how to sew, so I'm not sure which parts to sew first. I guess I could figure it out by trial and error. I'd also like to make it longer to hide my tummy. How would I do that and still keep snug fit?

ReplyDeleteYour boobs look beautiful in this :)
ReplyDeleteDear Fifi,
ReplyDeleteI want you to know that I made your bra/Halter top, with some minor adjustments for me, and I love it! Then I changed it further. I wanted a sun-dress with a full-circle skirt not too much unlike the famous white dress that Marilyn Monroe wears in The 7-year Itch but with your designed top instead of that particular dress. Actually, a couple times I thought the only thing that this dress and Marilyn's has in common is Fifi's Halter top. I've been sewing for a very long time so I re-enforce the carrying load of the bra and extended the band to my waistline and it is all lined with a light weight cotton. That lining allows me to remove my support cups before washing the dress. The cut allowed me to install an invisible side-seam zipper. The skirt falls mid-calf and the hemline is weighted with drapery chain which can also be removed for ease of laundering.
I'm letting you know all of this because you obviously have talent. Even if this is not your goal you should pursue it as a hobby.
Oh, and I was 67 when I made this dress combo with your halter/bra.
Доброго дня .Подскажите пожаожалуйста ,где взять выкройку
